Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to create a final set.

He rescued four early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
